Brahumdagh Bugti welcomes Balochistan bill
QUETTA: Nawabzada Brahumdagh Bugti, President of the Baloch Republican Party, has welcomed a resolution on Balochistan tabled in the United States’ House of Representatives.
Brahumdagh Bugti on Wednesday held a telephonic press conference from Switzerland.
He rejected the Balochistan Package and the proposed All Parties Conference by saying that the APC is not the solution to the issue.
He also urged the Chief Minister of Balochistan and other leaders to set aside their personal interests and join the Baloch nationalist movement.
Bugti said that the government move of calling the conference was beyond his understanding.
On one hand dead bodies were being handed over to the Baloch people and on the other hand the rulers are convening the conference, he added.
The Baloch leader also criticised the government for not providing access to NGOs and media to Dera Bugti and other areas of the province.
Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti has welcomed all foreign intervention in Balochistan whether it is by the US, Nato or India
Switzerland: Supporting the US congressional bill on Balochistan, Baloch Republican Party’s self-exiled chief Nawab Mir Brahumdagh Bugti has welcomed all foreign intervention in the Balochistan whether it is by the US, Nato or India.
“America must intervene in Balochistan and stop the ethnic cleansing of Baloch people,” said Brahamdagh, 30, as reporters listened with rapt attention to his telephonic address on Wednesday at the Quetta Press Club. “We know that foreign countries have their personal interest but we must think of our greater interest.”
A resolution was introduced on February 17 by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and co-sponsored by two other congressmen in the US House of Representatives, calling upon Pakistan to recognise the Baloch people’s right to self determination. The bill has outraged Pakistan and leaders and lawmakers have called it against the country’s sovereignty and an unwelcome intervention by the US.
“Baloch women, political leaders, activists, students, writers, poets, professors and intellectuals are being subjected to enforced disappearances and undergoing torture for years. Their mutilated bodies turn up daily. Under such circumstances, we will welcome the support of foreign countries,” he said. “We have been accused of getting support from India but the Baloch movement does not have any foreign support. However, we will welcome any support for independence.”
Balochistan, Pakistan’s least-developed but largest province, has undergone a separatist insurgency since the country’s inception. The insurgency escalated into rampant violence after the 2006 murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, the grandfather of Brahamdagh who now lives in Switzerland.
“The American resolution and committee formed for Balochistan is not against the sovereignty of Pakistan. Every country has the right to interfere or intervene [in another’s affairs] if there are state-sponsored human rights violations,” he said.
‘They are protecting Punjab’s sovereignty’
Sceptical of mainstream politicians’ and media attention to Balochistan’s affairs, Brahamdagh said the change of heart was rooted in apprehensions over Punjab’s sovereignty. “Pakistani politicians like Nawaz Sharif are now visiting Balochistan and inquiring about the plight of Baloch people. There are discussions and talks on TV channels and print media in recent days about Balochistan. Because they are now worried about the sovereignty of Punjab and [want] to protect Punjab’s interest.”
If they were sincere, he said, they should have raised the issue of enforced disappearances, mutilated bodies of Baloch youth and leaders earlier.
Reiterating his stance that there is violation of human rights in Balochistan by security forces and agencies, Brahamdagh said that Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had said that there was no military operation in the province and must stop denying the truth now.
Brahamdagh pointed out that if the lawmakers believe that the situation in Dera Bugti, Kohlu and adjoining areas is normal, they should allow free access to the region for journalists, international humanitarian organisations and citizens.
‘No negotiations’
When asked about an all-parties conference that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had announced over the crisis in Balochistan, Brahamdagh said that Baloch nationalist leaders will not join negotiations. “One the one hand, they are calling an APC while on the other, they are brutally killing Baloch people and throwing their bullet-riddled, mutilated bodies,” he said.
Brahamdagh called on Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi and Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani to also join the Baloch movement, leaving behind their “temporary” and “personal” interest as they will not achieve anything but humiliation from supporting the Pakistani government. “If they do not want to join the movement, they should resign from office and sit quietly because the Baloch movement is nearing its destination. Efforts are being made to unify the rank of Baloch leaders.”
When asked about the recent killing of his sister and niece in Karachi, Brahamdagh said that such brutalities will not compel him to withdraw or surrender from the struggle.
He also lashed out at the ultra-conservative Difa-e-Pakistan Council, which has announced a public gathering on February 27 in solidarity with the Baloch people. “Where were they when Baloch women, children and youth were being picked up and brutally killed by security forces? There is no influence of Jihadi elements in Balochistan. These religious parties are backed by security agencies,” he said.

Shahzain Bugti to boycott APC on Balochistan
LAHORE: Announcing the boycott of the All Parties Conference (APC) convened by the prime minister, Shahzain Bugti, the senior leader of the JWP, has warned of East Pakistan-like debacle in Balochistan if the government doesn't mend its ways.
Addressing a press conference at a local hotel on Monday, Shahzain Bugti, the grandson of Nawab Akbar Bugti, said as long as the military operation continues in the province, the situation could never gain normalcy.
Suggesting a nine-point formula for restoring peace in Balochistan, Shahzain demanded the arrest of former dictator Pervez Musharraf as well as calling for an end to regular intervention of security agencies in the troubled province. Besides, he also demanded end to the kidnapping of people as well as 'no go areas', recovery of missing persons, security of citizens and end to the bullet-riddled corpses which were regularly found in Balochistan.
To a question about the resolution tabled in US Congress calling for right of self-determination for the people of Balochistan, Shahzain said that if the kidnapping and killing of innocent people continued, no one from Balochistan would oppose the resolution tabled in the Congress. He also stated that he had no objection to the resolution tabled in Congress. Shahzain said the government could address the Balochistan issue within 72 hours if it showed sincerity.
To another question, he said the intelligence agencies were the major hindrance in the solution of Balochistan problem. To another query, he said the people of Balochistan had rejected the so-called package announced by the government from day one and stated that neither APC nor the lip-service could address the grievances of people.
SCBA to invite Mengal, Marri to seminar on Balochistan
Supreme Court Bar Association President Yaseen Azad will meet Baloch leaders, Sardar Ataullah Mengal and Khair Bakhsh Marri, next week to invite them at a seminar, which is being held on Balochistan issue.
Talking to reporters at the Supreme Court building, the SCBA president said that the bar was arranging a three-day seminar in the federal capital, in which all the major political parties, senior Baloch leaders and renowned lawyers would participate to discuss the worsening law and order situation in Balochistan. Azad said that an SCBA delegation would meet Sardar Mengal and Khair Marri next week and another delegation would visit a camp set up by the relatives of missing persons in the federal capital to express solidarity with them.
He said that all the superior bars were concerned about violation of human rights in Balochistan and demanded the government take effective steps to ensure recovery of missing persons otherwise the situation would go out of control. The SCBA president strongly endorsed the Pakistan Bar Council's (PBC) resolution against target killings of the Baloch people by state agencies.
"This house also condemns mysterious deaths and murders of the abducted persons who are found dead in various parts of Balochistan, and demands that those responsible for such murders be severely dealt with," the PBC resolution said. The council decided that its free legal aid committee would provide free legal assistance to the relatives of the missing persons, it further said.
Earlier, talking to our sources, SCBA Secretary Aslam Zar said that the bar was taking up the Balochistan issue on the recommendation of former SCBA president Asma Jahangir. He said the bar had rejected a US congressman's resolution on Balochistan because it was violation of Pakistan's sovereignty.
End.

Killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti’s relatives: Balochistan shuts for second day
* Balochistan Assembly members call for formation of committee to probe deaths
By Mohammad Zafar
QUETTA: A shutter-down strike was observed in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan for the second consecutive day on Friday to condemn the killings of lawmaker Nawabzada Mir Bakhtiar Khan Domki’s wife and daughter.
The deceased, who were also the sister and niece of Baloch Republican Party (BRP) chief Brahumdagh Bugti, were shot dead in Karachi on January 31. Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A) General Secretary Asad Baloch and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Nasreen Khethran staged a walkout during proceedings of the Balochistan Assembly to protest the killings.
BNP-Awami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and independent MPAs demanded the chief minister, who is currently in Islamabad, to immediately return to Quetta along with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to bring to justice the perpetrators of the crime. They forcefully rejected the official contention that it was a result of a tribal feud or personal enmity.
A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Sibi, Turbat, Dera Allahyar, Naushki, Khuzdar, Mastung, Hub, Washuk, Khuzdar and other parts of the province.
The strike was called by BRP and backed by the BNP, National Party (NP) and other nationalist parties.
Business and trade activities were halted as shops, trading centres, commercial establishments and educational institutions remained closed. Strict security measures were in place with the deployment of heavy contingent of security forces and law enforcement agencies during the strike. The BNP staged a demonstration in Naushki, while members of the Domki tribe took out a rally in Dera Murad Jamali demanding justice.
The killings also dominated the Balochistan Assembly proceedings on Friday.
On a point of order, BNP-A leader and provincial Agriculture Minister Asad Baloch said that the killings were part of the ongoing “Baloch genocide and ethnic cleansing”. On another point of order, senior provincial minister Maulana Wasay of JUI-F, ANP’s Minister for Revenue Zamruk Khan, PML-Q’s Jaffar Mandokhel, provincial Law Minister Shama Perveen Magsi and provincial minister Eshan Shah strongly condemned the killings and asked the speaker to adjourn the session as a mark of protest against the Sindh government’s inefficiency and to show solidarity with the Domki family.
Magsi underlined the need to constitute a committee of parliamentary parties with immediate effect to initiate talks with the Sindh government over the killings.
Maulana Wasay, Asad Baloch and independent MPAs then held a joint news conference at the chief minister’s chamber. They said the killings were part of a conspiracy to disintegrate the country.
The protesters termed the incident a failure of the Sindh government and said they had failed to protect the lives of women and children. They also held state functionaries responsible for the brutal killings.
The provincial ministers said that it was “ruthless and inhumane” that even Baloch women were not spared.
Wasay said that some external elements were trying to disintegrate the country by committing such acts and alleged that Interior Minister Rehman Malik was also part of this conspiracy. He said that people of Balochistan would not be pacified by the government’s hollow promises.
The BRP has called for a wheel-jam strike across the province today and tomorrow to protest against the killings.
