Charlotte police kill man who charged officers

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a mentally ill man who charged at officers with garden shears was shot and killed as they responded to a call at his grandmother's house.
Police have neither identified the man who was killed Friday nor the police officer involved in the shooting.
Spokesman Robert Tufano said it started when a woman locked herself inside the home and called a mental health worker for help with her grandson.  The case worker called police.
Officers arrived at the home and met the grandson in the garage.  Police say the grandson grabbed garden shears and charged at officers.  Police say an officer used a Taser, but it did not work. A second officer fired his gun and shot the grandson in the stomach.
