KUALA LUMPUR: Two years after being released from prison for a sodomy offence, an unemployed man was sent back to jail yesterday after he pleaded guilty to another sex crime.
Hamzani Mohd Daud, 35, was sentenced to 12 years' jail and ordered to receive five strokes of the rotan after he admitted to performing oral sex on a 20-year-old college student. He was also sentenced to five years' jail for extorting RM50 from the victim.
The offences were committed at the Pak Fook Hotel in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman on Sept 2.
Sessions Court judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid ordered for the sentences to run concurrently from the date of arrest on Sept 2.
Deputy public prosecutor Ooi Chean Ling, in pressing for a heavy sentence, said the accused was a habitual offender as he was released from prison two years ago after serving a 10-year jail term for sodomy in Kelantan.
She said the sentence should also send a message to the public that these offences would not be taken lightly. Hamzani, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a light sentence.
The victim was also in court yesterday to give an impact statement. He told the court that he was traumatised and depressed by the incident. The student added that he was afraid of men who were the same size as Hamzani.
According to the facts, Hamzani had introduced himself as an auxiliary policeman to the victim and his girlfriend at KL Sentral.
He questioned the two of them before ordering the girlfriend to leave the place.
Hamzani then took the victim to a dark corner and conducted a body search on him. He asked the victim to remove his pants and touched his private parts. After the body "examination", he ordered the victim to get into a taxi with him and headed to Chow Kit area.
Hamzani booked a room at the hotel, and ordered the victim to remove his clothes and lie on the bed before he performed oral sex on him more than once.
