MIRPURKHAS/HYDERABAD: Police in the wee hours of Sunday raided the houses of two relatives of slain Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti in Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad in connection with a case relating to the murder of the wife, daughter and driver of Balochistan MPA Mir Bakhtiar Domki.
The three were killed a few months ago in an armed attack in Karachi.
A heavy contingent of police, mostly from Karachi, raided the house of Mir Zahid Hassan Bugti, son-in-law of Akbar Bugti, in Satellite Town area of Mirpurkhas.
Accompanied by the area SHO, police surrounded the house, but Mr Zahid Bugti did not allow them to enter it without warrants.
About three hours later and without carrying out the search, the police returned.
Mr Zahid Bugti told Dawn that early in the morning the watchman informed him that 10 vehicles carrying police personnel, including policewomen, had surrounded the house and wanted to enter it.
Mr Zahid Bugti said police told him that they wanted to question his son Buland Bakht in connection with the murder of Ms Zamoor Domki, wife of Mir Bakhtiar, and their daughter and driver.
Mr Zahid Bugti told them that Buland Bakht was not in the house and that he would not allow them to enter the premises without arrest and search warrants.
He alleged that his family was being harassed and a conspiracy had been hatched to implicate his son in the murder of his relatives. He said his son was not involved in any illegal activity.
Mr Zahid Bugti said when he approached Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan he denied having any knowledge of the raid.
Satellite Town DSP Abid Qaimkhani confirmed that the area SHO was with the Karachi police during the raid.
In Hyderabad, over a dozen police personnel from the city and Karachi trespassed on the house of Jahangir Bugti, another relative of Akbar Bugti, in Qasimabad at around 4am.
The policemen, who had arrived on two vehicles, asked Jahangir Bugti’s son Umer Daraz questions about the triple murder.
Jahangir Bugti said he was not present in the house at the time of the raid as he had gone to Mirpurkhas.
He said this was not the way to investigate a case, adding that police had transgressed their authority by raiding his home and harassing his family. He said if any inquiry had to be made, police should have come in daytime.
