Data shows record 139 pc population jump in Balochistan

LAHORE: The volatile Balochistan province, which is otherwise trailing far behind in many areas of basic necessities of life and also witnessing worst time low level of sense of security, has conveniently outnumbered all the other federating units by showing an unprecedented 139.3 percent population boom.

The number of households in the province increased by 109.2 percent during this period, according to preliminary results of house listing 2011.According to the data the average household sized during this period increased from 7.1 in 1998 to 8.2 in 2011 while the average annual growth rate during this period was recorded at 6.90.

The details show that the province has total population of 13,162,222 in 2011 against the population of 5,501,164 in 1998 while the number of households was recorded 1,609,995 in 2011 against 769,633 in 1998. However, it is pertinent to mention here that three districts of the province including Khuzdar, Kech and Panjgur are not included in the preliminary results of house listing 2011.

According to break up figures, the population of Pishin increased from 367,183 to 813,662 (121.6%), Killa Abdullah from 370,269 to 2,138,997 (477.7%), Chagai from 104,534 to 199,504 (90.9%), Nushki from 98,030 to 150,377 (53.4%), Barkhan from 103,545 to 157,373 (52%), Musakhel from 134,056 to 247,717 (84.8%), Killa Saifullah from 193,553 to 521,422(169.4%), Sibi from 136,322 to 198,989 (46%), Harnai from 76,652 to 98,841 (28.9%) and Ziarat from 80,748 to 161,904 (100.5%).

Similarly the population of Kohlu increased from 99,846 to 236,057 (136.4%), Dera Bugti from 181,310 to 235,590 (29.9%), Jafarabad from 432,817 to 820,536 (89.6%), Nasirabad from 245,894 to 643,469(161.7%), Jhal Magsi from 109,941 to 205,902 (87.3%), Kalat from 237,834 to 665,016 (179.6%), Kharan from 116,541 to 168,797 (44.8%), Gwadar from 185,498 to 223,281 (20.4%), Lasbela from 312,695 to 483,177 and Loralai from 250,147 to 1,010,326 (303.9%).

The population of Mastung went up from 164,645 to 325,940 (98%), Sherani from 81,684 to 167,386 (104.9), Zhob from 193,458 to 394,768(104.1%), Kachhi from 255,480 to 546,921 (114.1%), Quetta from 759,941 to 1,967,702 (158.9%), Washuk from 90,368 to 181,157 (100.5), Awaran from 118,173 to 197,411 (67.1%).

The highest 477.7 percent growth in population was recorded in Killa Adullah followed by Loralai, Kalat, Quetta and Pishin where population increased by 169.4 percent, 179.6 percent, 158.9 percent and 121.6 percent respectively.

The lowest 20.4 percent increase in population was recorded in Gwadar followed by Harnai, Dera Bugti and Kharan where population grew by 28.9 percent, 29.9 percent and 44.8 percent respectively.

The number of households increased from 769,633 to 1,609,995, showing an increase of 109.2 percent.

The households in Pishin increased from 54,048 to 117,579 (117.5%), in Killa Abdullah from 45,948 to 206,087 (348.5%), in Chagai from 16,329 to 24,853 (52.2%), in Nushki from 13,417 to 17,589 (31.1), in Barkhan from 14,625 to 17,444 (19.3%), in Musakhel from 19,104 to 28,904 (51.3), in Killa Saifullah from 27,434 to 67,392 (145.7%), in Sibi from 18,562 to 27,531 (48.3), in Harnai from 12,390 to 15,116 (22%), in Ziarat from 4,503 to 23,879 (430.3%), in Kohlu from 15,400 to 22,739 (47.7%), in Dera Bugti from 28,673 to 36,266 (26.5), in Jafarabad from 60,864 to 125,346 (105.9%) and in Nasirabad from 38,605 to 85,693 (122%).

Similarly, the number of households in Jhal Magsi increased from 16,087 to 28,554 (77.5), in Kalat from 34,410 to 51,490 (49.6), in Kharan from 18,891 to 26,206 (38.7), in Gwadar from 33,680 to 36,430 (8.2%), in Lasbela from 48,856 to 76,350 (56.3%), in Loralai from 33,804 to 129,227 (282.3%), in Mastung from 20,326 to 33,212 (63.4), in Sherani from 10,608 to 17,235 (62.5%), in Zhob from 23,884 to 50,149 (110), in Kachhi from 33,475 to 63,107 (88.5%), in Quetta from 87,091 to 221,023 (153.8%), in Washuk from 16,735 to 30,162 (80.2) and the number in Awaran from 21,884 to 30,432 (39.1%).

The average household size of Balochistan increased from 7.1 to 8.2 from 1998 to 2011. In Pishin the size of households increased from 6.8 to 6.9, in Killa Abdullah from 8.1 to 10.4, in Chagai from 6.4 to 8, in Nushki from 7.3 to 8.5, in Barkhan from 7.1 to 9, in Musakhel from 7.0 to 8.6, in Killa Saifuallh from 7.1 to 7.7, in Harnai from 6.2 to 6.5, in Kohlu from 6.5 to 10.4, in Dera Bugti from 6.3 to 6.5, in Nasirabad from 6.4 to 7.5, in Jhal Magsi from 6.8 to 7.2, in Kalat from 6.9 to 12.9, in Kharan from 6.2 to 6.4, in Gwadar from 5.5 to 6.1, in Loralai from 7.4 to 7.8, in Mastung 8.1 to 9.8, in Sherani from 7.7 to 9.7, in Kachhi from 7.6 to 8.7, in Quetta from 8.7 to 8.9, in Washuk from 5.4 to 6.0 while in Awaran the household size increased from 5.4 to 6.5. On the other hand, the household sized decreased from 7.3 to 7.2 in Sibi while in Ziarat it increased from 17.9 to 6.8, in Jafarabad from 7.1 to 6.5, in Lasbela from 6.4 to 6.3 while in Zhob it decreased from 8.1 to 7.9.

The average annual population growth rate from 1998 to 2001 in the Balochistan province has been recorded at 6.9 per annum, the house listing results revealed.

The average annual growth rate in Pishin was recorded at 6.27 while in Killa Abdullah it was 14.35, in Chagai 5.06, in Nushki 3.32, in Barkhan 3.25, in Musakhel 4.81, in Killa Saifuallh 7.87, in Sibi 2.93, in Harnai 1.96, in Ziarat 5.46, in Kohlu 6.80, in Dera Bugti 2.02, in Jafarabad 5.01, in Nasirabad 7.63 while in Jhal Magsi it was 4.91.
