Scholar Dr. Nabi Bux Baloch remembered



HYDERABAD: Scholars and educationists while remembering the eminent scholar and world known legend Dr. N.A Baloch at a seminar in connection with his first death anniversary at the University of Sindh paid rich tributes to him and said that Dr. Baloch was a true Sindh Lover, a man of discipline and the man of letters who struggled whole life for the promotion of Sindhi Language and Literature and introduced new trends in the research.

The seminar was organized by the Faculty of Arts University of Sindh at University's Senate Hall, which was attended by a large number scholars, teachers and students and family members of Dr. N.A Baloch.

Noted intellectual and educationist Dr. Ghulam Ali Allana who presided over the seminar paying rich tribute to his valued services said that Dr. Baloch alone has worked a lot which not done by any Institute.

He said that he always respected Dr. Baloch being a his teacher and a man of caliber and added that he traveled many times with Dr. Baloch who always used to prefer to his creative work even during the traveling.

Dr. Allana proposed setting up of Dr. N.A Baloch Research Chair in the University and appointment of man of caliber to promote research work of Dr. Baloch.

He said that Dr. Baloch was not only a research scholar but a sindhologist who traveled every part of Sindh to do research and identified the public matters as well as traditions which had value in the society at local level and also identified for the interest of the people.

He said that Dr. Baloch was a controversial scholar and added that he always welcomed criticism but never ever responded criticism against him because he always valued the time. He said that Dr. Baloch was an extra ordinary scholar and he devoted his whole life on education and research with realization that life is short.

Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Parveen Shah speaking on the occasion said that Dr. Baloch surely created such heaven of knowledge during his life and added that he has left to use more than 150 books encompassing all important areas of knowledge, education and wisdom.

She said that Dr. Baloch's first love affair was with the Muslim nationhood which was realized in the sub-continent in the shape of Pakistan and added that Sindh was his second love which he passionately pursued till last day of his life.

She further said that Dr. Baloch carried an unwritten, unspoken , yet a concrete commitment to serve Sindh, to revive its lost identity and cultural glory to preserve its cultural heritage, language, folk-lore and classical literature through his continued erudite research.

It would be grossly unfair if I do not mentioned here Dr. Baloch's enormous contribution to University of Sindh Dr. Parveen Shah said adding that many of us may not know that when he returned home having completed his Ph. D at University of Columbia, USA, he was offered a lucrative post in Civil service of Pakistan which he surrendered to join University of Sindh.

Prof. Qalandar Lakyari, Taj Joyo, Dr. Noor Afroz Khowaja, Dean Faculty of Arts, Dr. Hafiz Abdul Ghanni Shaikh, Dr. Muhammad Khan Sangi, Azad Kazi and others also paid tribute to Dr. N.A Baloch.
