RAWALPINDI, April 10: A woman gave birth to quadruplets at Holy Family Hospital (HFH) on Tuesday.
The condition of the mother and the baby girls is stated to be stable. Owing to premature births, the children have been kept in incubators.
Najma Begum, 43, is wife of Tauqeer Ahmed. She came from Chakwal two days ago. It is her third delivery as she already has a son and a daughter.
“I am happy as it is not a problem for me and my family to have girls. The girls are blessing of Allah Almighty,” said Tauqeer Ahmed, father of newborns, while talking to Dawn.
He complained that the hospital administration and the doctors were not behaving well with them and they had to face a lot of problems during their stay at the hospital.
He said mostly he had to run out of the hospital for pathological tests of his wife.
Despite repeated attempts, Head of Gynaecology Department, Dr. Rizwana Chaudhry was not available for comments. However, duty doctor Dr. Nasira Ahmed said that Najma Begum delivered quadruplets when she came for routine check-up from the gynaecologist.
She said though the births were premature, the condition of the newborns was stable as the babies’ weight was 1.5kg each. She said that it was not unusual because many such births had taken place at the hospital in the past but she had no exact data.
Addition Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Tariq Niazi told Dawn that the hospital staff was taking care of the newborns and the mother.
“The children in the incubators are being monitored by nurses under the supervision of Dr. Rai Muhammad Asghar,” he said and added that they would be kept there for one to three weeks.
He said that the triplets and quadruplets were usually born premature because their pregnancy period was long as compared to normal delivery cases.
