Indonesia shaken by 6.1 magnitude earthquake

THE Indonesian capital, Jakarta, was shaken today by a strong earthquake with a preliminary reading of 6.1, the country's meteorological agency reported.


Indonesia’s Meteorology and Geophysics Agency put the preliminary magnitude of Monday’s temblor at 6.1. It hit 121 kilometers (75 miles) southwest of West Java province’s coast at a depth of around 24 kilometers (15 miles).


A strong earthquake caused tall buildings to sway in Indonesia’s capital.
