OTTAWA — Three employees of an armored car company were shot dead and a fourth person was wounded early Friday at the University of Alberta in the western Canadian city of Edmonton, according to local media.
An Edmonton police officer told AFP that "shots were fired" but declined to provide further details, saying a statement would be released later.
The Edmonton Journal said the shooting took place near the HUB Mall, a shopping center and student residence on the university campus, and appeared to have been part of a robbery attempt.
It said the shooter was still at large but that police had searched and secured the mall and had no plans to evacuate the campus.
The newspaper said two men and one woman were killed in the shooting, and that the fourth victim, a man, was hospitalized in critical condition.
